Appreciating the Little Things

October 22, 2015

Today Fox gave me a big hug. He crawled to me, climbed onto my lap, pulled himself up to my level and wrapped his little arms around my neck. His cheek pressed against mine and after a long pause he straightened up with his tiny hands now on my shoulders, cocked his head and smiled, and then crawled away to play with his toys.

There have been many times where he has clutched onto me while I’m carrying him room to room, but this was the first time I felt him give me this kind of hug. It was so very intentional.

These days I’ve had to put an honest effort into taking the time to appreciate the little things like this. It’s so hard to press pause as a parent and think about these precious moments.

When Tyler got home I suggested that we head outside to catch the sunset. The sky looked like it was on fire.

Fox loves watching the palm trees sway and when a car drives by beyond our stone wall he follows the noises that he hears. He sat with Tyler on the hammock as we watched the oranges and reds fade away.

Do you have any suggestions on how to take a breath and enjoy the little things? Let me know in the comments!

Ah, what a lovely family evening! My suggestions for stopping to enjoy the smallest things in life is to imagine all the things you will miss about having a baby. Then, relish in those things as much as possible! Xx
