One of my biggest struggles as a parent has nothing to do with my child. It’s finding friends who are at the same place in life, going through the same types of experiences, and — most importantly — down to earth and honest about it.
Now I’m in a brand new city with a very different career, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t (literally) fantasize about having a fun group of moms to share highs, lows, and blasé in-betweens with. (Ladies, if you’re out there, you know where to find me!)
When I watched Bad Moms my jealousy crept in as I watched overworked and under-appreciated mama Amy (Mila Kunis) find her friend-soul mates Carla (Kathryn Hahn) and Kiki (Kristen Bell) after hilariously quitting the PTA because girlfriend was D.O.N.E.
Amy finds herself dealing with a crumbling marriage, a maniacal Stepford wife named Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate), and a dog with vertigo, all the while shuttling her kids to and fro and trying to please her hipster boss from hell.
Her new friends couldn’t be any more different from each other — Carla is a no holds barred party animal and Kiki a meek, sheltered woman who orders apple juice at a dive bar and charmingly calls celebrities by their full names (Beyoncé Knowles and Vincent Diesel). When the three get together, they share their deepest fantasies (I could totally relate when Amy says she just wants to have breakfast in silence, alone, because it’s okay to admit that we don’t need to be on our mom game 100% of each day) and decide to embrace being “bad moms.”
Just when the stress starts to fizzle away, Amy is caught in the crosshairs of Gwendolyn who uses her connections to make Amy’s life a living hell using “tools” like a sad, cat-obsessed soccer coach and Martha Stewart. You’ll have to watch to see how she turns the tables!
