Birthday at Disneyland

September 17, 2015

Hello everyone! Sorry for my brief absence. I turned 28 on Monday and took a little time for me and my family. We headed a tiny bit up the coast and spent two days at Disneyland!

If you’re ever worried that you won’t hear enough happy birthdays on your special day, please book a trip to Disney – haha. I picked up a Happy Birthday badge when I arrived since I was already there grabbing a “My First Visit” one for Fox and it’s amazing how many cast members and strangers walking the park will go out of their way to wish you well.

Then we bee-lined it to get Fox some mouse ears. I had the same ones when I was a baby.

The Halloween decorations are in full-swing at Disneyland already, so it helped to put me in the birthday mood. Probably a dumb complaint but my birthday never feels like it’s my birthday because of the heat in SoCal. Growing up I was already breaking out the sweaters and here at Disney we were in the 90s, but the pumpkins and leaves really set the mood.

Fox has a habit of not sleeping in public. So far we’re lucky in the sense that he doesn’t get mad if he can’t sleep while he’s out. He likes being overstimulated and as long as there’s stuff going on, he’s fine. He did not wipe the smile off his face!

We wound up going to both Disneyland and California Adventure and really went for it in terms of rides and snacks. It was surprisingly busy on both Sunday and Monday (who is free on a Monday mid-September?!), so we skipped a couple major attractions but managed to hit Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train, It’s a Small World, The Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!, Pinocchio, Pirates of the Caribbean, Storybook Land Canal Boats, and Haunted Mansion. We also managed to go “wine tasting” and stock up on pumpkin-flavored Mickey beignets. But the highlight for our little guy was meeting a few characters. They were ALL out and very accessible, but we chose to keep it to a minimum. I’m sure he’ll make us wait in the lines later on in life, regardless 😉

We met my favorite – Jack and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas – and then Mickey Mouse!

We haven’t bitten the bullet to buy the actual photos yet where Fox is absolutely beaming but here’s one where mom and dad look way more excited than he does. Oh, and I’ve also decided Monsters, Inc. is his favorite because he can’t decide for himself. Let’s hope he’s okay with that.

Next was Pinocchio.

And then the German food outside: bratwurst and bacon sauerkraut.

Like the mouth-print Fox left on my shoulder? #momlife

Fox’s 15 minute power nap. Literally the only time he slept from the time he woke up until bedtime.

One of my favorite parts of California Adventure: Cars Land at night.

And to top off such an awesome visit, as we’re walking out I hear “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” and as I’m looking around trying to figure out where it’s coming from I look up and realize it’s the train conductor overhead. What a cool send-off!

As for 28, I don’t feel any different. But I do know it’s going to be a great year ahead.

XO, Sarabeth
