Event Recap: Cooking Demo with Ling Ling and Chef Katie Chin

July 26, 2017

Last week I had the pleasure of attending an event here in Sherman Oaks for Ling Ling Asian Kitchen at BLVD Kitchen. I was so excited to learn it was a cooking demonstration and, most of all, that it would be hosted by Chef Katie Chin.

I’m a notoriously “lazy” chef when it comes to home-made dinners and slaving over the stove. I enjoy the social aspect of a meal without having to hide away in the kitchen for hours on end before being able to actually eat together with my family or friends.

This led to too many instances of just having dinner delivered at the expense of increased cost and our commitment to eating healthier this year.

With my husband and I both working full-time and Fox still raging around the house all day and night, finding the time to prepare a smart, healthy meal that we all appreciate and enjoy tends to be a struggle, to say the least.

It wasn’t until I tasted what I helped create with Chef Katie Chin at BLVD Kitchen that really opened my eyes to the quality of meals that can be fast, light and delicious. Just down the street from our new home in Sherman Oaks, I entered a world of delectable cuisine and perfectly paired wine as Chef Katie Chin demonstrated three amazing recipes using Ling Ling Fried Rice products.

I surprised myself a little when the final meals came out and the room fell silent as the dishes disappeared into the mouths of the lovely bloggers and media guests at the event.

The big unveil at our intimate event was the announcement of five new Ling Ling Fried Rice Entrees: Japanese Yakitori Chicken, Japanese Yakinuku Beef, Thai-Style Chicken, Chinese-Style Vegetable, and Korean Bibimbap Beef.

Chef Chin is a world-renowned food expert, author, and TV personality. We were lucky enough to hear stories about her life, her mother and the start of the Ling Ling brand. I was able to pick her brain about shortcuts to delicious and fast family dinners and she was kind enough to share her own personal “cheats” when it comes to raising children and living up to sometimes impossible expectations.

One admission I have to make is that I’m a sucker for great side dishes, and Chef Chin wowed us over when she had us create three side pairings for the Ling Ling dishes. My absolute favorite was a Japanese cucumber salad that I could not get enough of. I’ve already made it for Tyler and Fox earlier this week.

The entire night was magical, as I met some amazing women, business-owners, mothers, and professionals. We laughed, shared stories, and enjoyed absolutely amazing food thanks to Ling Ling and Chef Katie Chin.
