Movie Night: Inside Out in a Fort!

You may have seen my Instagram post this week where I admitted to going to not one, but two, Target stores in the very same day.

Here’s a refresher if not:

Besides all of the Christmas cuteness in my basket, do you see anything blue and Blu and fun all over? That’s right, folks – I was at Target at 8 a.m. on Nov. 3 to be one of the first to get a copy of Inside Out on Blu-ray! Living in Southern California it’s hard not to be a huge Disney fan, so I had big plans to have this movie night complete with fort, pretty lights, and snacks, along with a few extra items to bring the theme full circle for a long time!

Here’s what my starter shopping list looked like to create an emotion-infused spread:

  1. Inside Out DVD
  2. Popcorn
  3. Candy
  4. String lights
  5. Sheets

I say starter because no one walks into Target needing five things and walks out with five things. It is way too easy to find a few dozen things to “need” as you’re walking around. My needs this round included (but were not limited to) ties for the baby, a Christmas list chalkboard, wrapping paper, buffalo check and plaid baskets, and fancy socks.

First stop was the new release display.

Later I found lights at the Dollar Spot for only $3 and grabbed some plain white sheets that I later draped over chairs to form a flawless fort.

I made sure to pop up some popcorn and snag some gumballs that reminded me of the Inside Out memory orbs.

Then I put everything together! A bucket for each family member stuffed with Inside Out emotion socks and these really neat bingo boards and dauber printables that Tyler created.

The call sheet revolves around events that occur in the movie at certain times. This is an ideal way to keep kiddos engaged in the movie. This film teaches great lessons (and doesn’t sugarcoat them which I appreciate as a parent), so you’ll definitely want your children to hear them. Also, Inside Out movies purchased at Target have 20 minutes of deleted scenes and exclusive bonus content!

BINGO Printables & Game Instructions

First, download the printable files here. Print out all of the files, these include the call sheet (for the parent or Bingo caller), five custom Bingo cards (plus a blank card to make more variations), and dauber wrappers so that every player can play as their favorite character. Use the bottom of the call sheet to pick a game to play. Pop in the Inside Out Blu-ray or DVD and watch closely as key scenes in the movie will trigger Bingo calls (use the call sheet to look out for upcoming events and call them for all players). The first player who entirely fills in the shape wins the game.

I chose the Disgust socks because Mindy Kaling is my girl! I’ve loved her ever since The Office and recently dug into her latest book. She’s absolutely hilarious.

Fox had never been in a fort before so he freaked out in the best way possible. He kept rolling around and staring at the lights. He loved all of the voices and the bright colors in the movie.

I have to admit that this was take two of the fort. Step one in building a fort is making sure that you don’t have a crazy animal (in my case a cat) in the house who thinks that the “roof” of your fort is solid. Peter came crashing through – on me – with a vengeance and the whole tent needed to be reconstructed – HA!

I’m already thinking it’s time for round two, but this time a bigger fort and lots of friends!

Have you seen Inside Out yet? What’s your favorite character – Joy, Disgust, Sadness, Anger, or Fear?
