Spreading Cheer One Cookie at a Time + $20 PayPal Giveaway!

December 1, 2015

Welcome to December and all things Christmas!

I’ve been watching a lot of Christmas movies lately and I’ve noticed a few key things:

  1. There is always a character named Holly.
  2. There is always a character named Nick.
  3. Holly and Nick are always baking cookies in a flurry of flour. Where the heck are they going to put the massive amounts of perfectly frosted cookies? And how did they do that all themselves?

I’m not sure I’ve ever watched a Christmas movie where baking cookies was not involved! It’s the quintessential Christmas activity for families and loved ones to share in the holiday spirit. Regardless of the fact that I’ve made enough Christmas cookies to rival a yuletide flick, I realized that I hadn’t actually let Fox participate yet. Furthermore, I hadn’t shared the goods!

So our family embarked on a serious cookie baking mission after a quick trip to Albertsons (like I’ve mentioned in past posts, Fox has a thing with grocery stores – it’s like we’ve taken him to Disneyland). I made the cutouts and popped them in the oven while we hung ornaments on the tree and waited for the fun part – decorating the cookies!

This guy got his first taste of frosting and fell into a sugar daze shortly after.

Rudolph the Red Nosed Baby. Can’t handle the sweetness in this photo!

We decorated the usual suspects – ornaments, snowflakes, gingerbread men, snowmen, and foxes. Okay so foxes may not be Christmasy but they’re always a staple in our cookie adventures. I got this cutter from my parents last Christmas right before Fox was born.

I wanted to do a slight twist on the usual cookie exchange, so I thought long and hard about what makes decorating special to me. It’s not mixing the batter, rolling the dough, or popping the sheet into the oven. It’s the icing part that makes me warm inside! To put it into perspective, waiting for cookies to bake is kind of like being a kid and waiting for your sibling to open up their gift when you’re next on deck. It’s like “get on with it!” right? Icing a cookie is me finally opening my present after a long wait.

Rather than rob my friends of this fun experience, I opted to create a basket filled with all the frosting fixings and unfrosted cookies. That way they could decorate with their family and enjoy more cheer than just the finished result.

I enlisted a tiny helper to knock on their gate door.

At first he got distracted by a cookie (sorry friends – one less cookie to decorate!), but we got him back on track…

…until he found a sprinkle-filled ornament. We’re still working on the grabby hands thing.

Speaking of the ornaments, the basket consisted of cookie plates, a stocking filled with a frosting tube, unfrosted cookies, decorating tips, a “cup of cheer,” Christmas hand towels, and plastic ornaments filled with colorful sprinkles.

We printed off some free gift tags and coloring sheets for Fox here.
