Sprucing Up the Patio with Colorful Details

May 12, 2017

This post is sponsored by Monrovia, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

My mom is coming to town in just over a week and her favorite thing to do as an East Coast native visiting California is to soak up the sun on our patio. We haven’t given it much TLC since the house came with a basketball hoop and Fox primarily hangs out with his water table or sidewalk chalk, so I wanted to make sure to upgrade it a bit before the adults roll in.

We stopped finally bought a dining table and some outdoor decor, but it wasn’t complete until we added a few pops of color!

The family loaded into the car and headed to Lowe’s to pick up some plants for an eye-catching centerpiece.

I really fell in love with the Asiatic Lilies, so I picked up two red Tiny Rockets and one orange Tiny Double You.

These are perfect for our space since it is full sun at all times in our yard.

I’ve been slowly learning about plants and what to plant when/where/how — may I add through a boatload of trial and error. Monrovia plants are so healthy and high-quality upon purchase that they will thrive for years to come with vibrancy, which is important to me as a beginner gardener and also as someone who revels in color mixed in with green grass and a neutral-colored house.

It was late by the time we got home, so I waited until the morning to pot everything. I didn’t expect a helper, but Fox came barreling out of the house in his jammies and was determined to do some gardening. He was pretty meticulous, all of the spilled dirt was from me!

Maybe he has a future as a landscaper. He was pretty passionate.

I was not expecting to bond over potting this morning with my 2-year-old, but I can see this becoming a mom and son activity. It was the perfect way to kick off Mother’s Day weekend.

Next on the agenda? Succulents and an herb garden! We have big plans for our outdoor patio and I’m hopefully my thumb stays green 😉
