St. Andrews Links, Scotland

August 9, 2016

Disclaimer: I left these photos 100% unedited because I need you to understand just how naturally beautiful this property is.

St. Andrews Links was another stop on our UK trip that was kind of out there in terms of adding on another leg of driving. Between our starting point, stop at the links, and onto our ending location it was a total of 4.5 hours drive time, but when you have the opportunity to visit the “home of golf” you jump at the chance.

It’s so exciting to me to be able to give Fox cool experiences to talk to him about when he’s older, and having his first golfing experience in Fife was a hole in one! 😉

This was the absolute windiest place I’ve ever been, especially in the bitter cold, but the surreal beauty was worth every second. We purchased tickets for a guided tour that took us to the Old Course. I usually try to avoid these kinds of tours because I like to do things at my own pace and, to be completely honest, always find myself impatient with others talking over the guide or the likes. Although everyone was very respectful to our informative guide, we couldn’t hear because of the howling wind. The perks of the tour include great photo ops on the green and a branded golfball and scorecard to bring home. We got a couple of those, a tartan golf towel for Tyler, and some souvenirs for the men in our families.

The entire tour walks you around the side of the course, so you could walk it yourself as long as you don’t need to stand directly on the green. There’s also a delicious restaurant to warm up in afterwards that had the absolute best Cullen skink, a Scottish soup made of smoked haddock, potatoes, and onions, that I’ve ever had!

West Sands, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, UKBefore we hopped back in the car we stopped at the beach across the street — yes, a beach — to do a Chariots of Fire jog like the first 20 seconds of this video.

Look familiar? That’s because it’s the same beach, West Sands!

Ty and I were laughing because he’s had all these neat experiences, but he also went on his very first playground that trip too haha — we are very behind on some things.
