The Mindy Project Costume Tour with Designer Salvador Perez

September 8, 2017

Today was a very exciting day in Beverly Hills where I was treated to a guided tour of Hulu’s The Mindy Project: 6 Seasons of Style at the Paley Center for Media. Better yet, I heard firsthand all about each item from the collection’s curator aka…

Costume Designer Salvador Perez!

As soon as the invitation arrived I squealed, since Mindy Kaling’s character Mindy Lahiri is my TV style icon. All of the pattern and texture mixing paired with the impeccable color schemes have always left me drooling (and sometimes hitting rewind to watch parts of the show that I missed while my eyes glazed in delight from the cute fashions on my screen).

As I perused the exhibit, iconic moments popped out at me left and right. Who remembers the “hot mess dress” from season one?

*Raises hand*

Salvador, whose credits include huge feats like running the sewing workroom on the film “Titanic,” came equipped with plenty of knowledge and backstory to share with us.

One of my favorite things he shared with us was how he answered people on set when they asked the questions, “How’d you get her to go sleeveless? How’d you get her to go strapless?”

He simply replied, “I told her she was beautiful.”

He also mentioned that all drawings of Mindy’s outfits, done by Aasha Ramdeen, are done in the exact same pose since they remind Salvador of paper dolls.

Here’s an example of one Aasha’s beautiful drawings.  The final season premiere of The Mindy Project will air on Hulu on September 12th.

Don’t miss out!
