It has been fiery H-O-T in Los Angeles and my family has been ducking out of the heat as much as possible. Spending lots of time indoors means a bit of extra TV time where I can get into summer in the chilly A/C!
Here are my top five favorite summer movies of all time:
With a song like Summer Lovin’ heading up the movie soundtrack, Grease is the quintessential summer movie. Although set over the course of a school year, the storyline has deep roots beginning with a beachside frolic. Watching Sandy and Danny’s love story unfold (along with incredible characters like Rizzo and Frenchie) will be sure to get you in the summer spirit.
Wet Hot American Summer
I never said this was a family-friendly list 😉 Put the kids to bed and travel back in time to the last day at Camp Firewood in 1981. An expansive list of hilarious celebrities will have you rolling with laughter and yearning for the days of arts and crafts and horrible mess hall food.
I can’t be the only one who envisions myself as Wendy Peffercorn while slapping on sunscreen at the pool, right? The coming of age story that is The Sandlot oozes all the summertime feels, and you’ll find yourself happier than Squints after he gets his highly coveted “kiss.” After all, the movie’s original title wasn’t supposed to be The Boys of Summer for nothing.
One of my favorite summertime treats as a kid was freeze pops, especially the pink and green ones. During summertime I’d eat these while watching Ghostbusters and pretend the green was Slimer and, if there was a showing of Ghostbusters 2 afterwards, I’d eat the pink in honor of the psychomagnotheric slime. Not the most appetizing, but you can’t blame me for the enthusiasm!
Weekend at Bernie’s
About one year into marriage, I found out something life changing about my husband: he does a killer Bernie Lomax impression. If that isn’t reason enough for me to hold this summer movie near and dear to my heart, the hilarity that ensues from Larry and Richard’s deceptive adventures is more than enough.
We all have a smartphone these days, but how many people can say that their phones give them a free movie to watch every month? With Walmart’s Family Mobile Plus, we receive a free movie for each of our lines on our plan through the VUDU service. We can watch our free movies (a $7 value) on any device, including all of our televisions and tablets.
Not only is the free monthly movie a huge bonus, but we were able to pick up a brand new Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime for only $129 on Rollback right now at Walmart. With convenient no-contract pay as you go plan, we never have to worry about overages, because unlimited talk, text and data (with 10GB of 4G LTE) is included with the $49.88 monthly plan.
Also, the starter kit is now available on rollback for $19.88 — the only thing you’ll have to pay when you sign up.
Summer is about being care-free and focusing on enjoying the finer things in life, which is why I love the Walmart Family Mobile Plus plan. We know exactly what we’re paying, we get the lowest priced service, and we get to enjoy our favorite summer movies. Plus, I’ll be using my extra data to help me navigate to some vacation spots this summer!
