Birthday Q&A with the Husband!

My husband Tyler is one of the most selfless, kind, and compassionate people I know. He’s a doting father to our son and my heart feels like it explodes just about every time I see them interact.

Tyler has a birthday coming up in a couple of days and I thought that putting together a QA all about who he is and why I love him would be fun! 

Describe our first date from your point of view.
I was supremely nervous. So much so that I didn’t bring any money with me. The irony that I took you to a fancy Mexican restaurant and now we joke about it being not our favorite food, but it was right before my band’s concert so I got to show off a little bit. Even if it was a tiny show and you paid for my meal. I definitely threw you a curve ball but it all worked out in the end, even if I didn’t have the charm that I do now.

It definitely wasn’t very smooth – haha. What do you think my first impression of you was?
Honestly, I wasn’t really sure if you liked me too much. I didn’t give the best first impression, but I guess something I did kept you around.

Yep! What was your first impression of me?
I don’t know how to word this, but you were exactly my type — to a T. I figured you were out of my league.

How accurate do you think that first impression was?
Well, obviously we’re married now so I probably could have had a little more confidence initially, but I still feel like we are perfect for each other.

What do you think the turning point was where you finally put on the charm and won me over?
When I first brought you to California I had planned dates every day and it was the first time that we were in the same location for an extended period of time, which finally felt right. It was Christmastime and we visited some of my favorite restaurants, a swanky rooftop bar, and even saw a Christmas tree on the beach (which you were awed by)!

Do you have any talents or accomplishments that you’re especially proud of?
I’m probably the best person in the world at the Boardwalk games at Disney’s California Adventure! I’m extremely proud at the success of several companies I’ve started — from a band to a media company and now my blog.

What was the most memorable moment for you from our wedding day?
Honestly, it was after everyone left and we were standing around the kitchen telling old stories knowing that the ceremony and reception were a success and being excited about the future and our Honeymoon locations.

Our Honeymoon trip was so much fun! Speaking of travel, what’s your favorite place we’ve ever been to?
It’s a toss up between Ireland and Japan for wildly different reasons. The memories we made in both spots are some of my favorite to share, if we had time for that.

Okay, just share one! What was the best excursion we’ve ever taken?
Robot Restaurant! The unexpected insanity of the whole experience.

Are there certain smells that take you back to some of your favorite memories?
The smell of saltwater from the Pacific Ocean always takes me back to when I was a young kid spending hours and hours at the beach, sometimes several days in a row. It’s always calming to remember how carefree I was at that age.

For Tyler’s birthday I decided to take a cue from one of the smells he talked about in his favorite memories and got him cologne with marine and mineral notes. Alford & Hoff No. 2 Edition reflects an athletic lifestyle, with watery fruits and citrus tonalities. He LOVED it! 

I’ve always wanted to get Tyler a fragrance and I’ve almost pulled the trigger a few times, but I’m always worried I won’t pick the right scent. When I gave it to him he told me that he’s been wanting cologne for years but never splurged on himself.
