Before we moved into our home this past fall, I was hellbent on turning the one area of my downstairs into a breakfast nook. I envisioned my kids eating meals there and doing homework — a true hub for us all to reconvene around.

As soon as I got furniture in, this started changing fast. I knew we would be tight on space without a pantry, but it felt like even less once all the pots and pans, dishes and glassware made their homes in each cabinet.
Where would the food go?
From there I made the decision to buy a standalone pantry, except it was so incredibly hard to find what I wanted! I landed on a big white hall tree that would have been perfect except for the price tag. $1000 for one piece of furniture when you’re trying to furnish an entire house is hard to swallow! I almost gave up until I saw that the black equivalent was on sale for only a few hundred. Sure it would be the wrong color, but it still matched.

And ever since the day we built it I have hated it. The thing is, it’s beautiful but it’s like a big storm cloud that hovers over the room. I couldn’t decorate it, couldn’t hang things on the walls, it always had grubby little fingerprints on it, wouldn’t close right, and I struggled to get things out of the pantry with the table and chairs in front of it.

I decided to get rid of our kitchen cart and slide the pantry in instead, moving my front entryway console up and going to town with some bright decorations.

Last fall I went all in on a blue fall tablescape and since then I cannot get that color out of my head. I mixed the decor with old and new to create that perfect modern farmhouse vibe I’m always going for.
I usually set my table but I just wasn’t feeling it this time around. Instead, I bought a wooden beaded tray to style with faux flowers, a vase, and decorative sphere.
I framed an image of Fox (I need to get a few of both boys printed!) and my wedding invitation which goes so well with the decor! I guess I’ve always had a similar style.
I haven’t quite figured out what to put in the little clips of the window frame. More pictures? Little blooms? Do you have any ideas?
