De-junking the Kitchen

August 28, 2016

Many thanks to Annie’s Homegrown for sponsoring today’s story and encouraging me to eat certified organic!

You guys, this time next week I’ll be sitting on a beach in a bathing suit and I am not ready. Or at least my body isn’t.

Gone are the days of randomly deciding to work out or cook healthy dinners that take forever to make — I have an unpredictable toddler in the house and my body shows the results of that.

Besides living in the same building with a juicery, a health food restaurant, and three gyms, my Snapchat has a geofilter for SoulCycle (also inside my building) that slaps me in the face every time I go to snap a pic of a delicious donut I’m having for breakfast. I can’t make this stuff up.

The guilt piled up and enough was enough — it was time to clean out the cupboards and be rid of all the junk, not only for us but also for the little person we are shaping.

The first to go were the sugar-filled and artificially flavored snacks. I’ve always found it exhausting to read labels with a child in the shopping cart that wants to feel the supermarket wind in his hair, gliding through the aisles, no longer sitting stagnant while I figure out what is a healthy option for our family. I’ve stuck with a few specific brands that I’ve come to trust along the way and the one that stands out for Fox is Annie’s Homegrown.Annie's Homegrown Annie's HomegrownWhen Fox was first born I received a care package of items for new moms and inside I found Annie’s Organic Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bars and Annie’s Organic Cheddar Bunnies. It was so nice to have guilt-free snacks on the fly while trying to juggle working from home with a newborn baby.

Annie's HomegrownI did some digging on Annie’s Homegrown and found that the basis of the company is to give families healthy (and yummy) food while proving that a successful business can also be socially responsible. But the best part is that Fox is a big fan!

Annie's HomegrownHis little meal here consists of strawberries, Annie’s Organic Cheddar Bunnies, and Annie’s Organic Shells & White Cheddar Mac & Cheese.

Annie's HomegrownHe’s also big on the granola bars which are perfect for back-to-school lunches. Here’s some more lunch box inspiration — my favorite is the Perfectly Portable!
