Traditional Vintage Farmhouse Christmas Dining Room

Welcome friends! Whether you’ve made your way over from Lynne at My Family Thyme or you’re a regular here, I’m excited to be sharing my traditional vintage farmhouse Christmas dining room tour with you today!

Since this is our first Christmas in our new home, I was starting from scratch on this space. I had to pick a color scheme, figure out where to hang things on the walls — we were looking pretty empty in there!

Color Scheme

As soon as we added the mirror above the console, I knew I wanted to make flat black a large part of the design. At first I focused on green, white, and black, but quickly added red because I’m a sucker for a pop of color. It really did need that extra “oomph.” The stripes on the linen napkins added the perfect amount of red without overwhelming the scene.

My one major color pop came in the form of the Winter Wonderland wall art. I have loved to hang this in our home over the years, but it was just too small for the wall I wanted to add it to. I wound up using a red frame I had painted for last year’s Valentine’s Day mantle to create a little frame inception and extend the height of my beloved sign.

Greenery

I kept my tree neutral so it didn’t fight with the dramatic tablescape. Then I went to Target and somehow wound up with a “whoops tree” aka I blacked out and somehow wound up with a second tree to put in the corner of the room. It happens to the best of us! Since both trees are flocked, I needed some true green in the mix which is where the small wreaths come into play. I filled the middle of each with sparkly ornaments for now, but these wreaths are incredibly versatile making them easy to reuse in the future with any color of the rainbow!

Vintage Elements

There are quite a few vintage pieces in this room. I’ve been collecting old books for over a decade and I remember where each was sourced from! I stacked several in red and green on both the console and centerpiece, added a gorgeous nutcracker I snagged at the thrift shop for $4 as well as a .99 cent bell, and The plates are vintage as well from a local shop called Tattered Tulip. Although not vintage, the pinecone at the center of the table was a treasure my son brought home from the park a couple years ago and has kept in his safe keeping box ever since.
