Gift giving is my specialty, but when it comes to anniversaries and Valentine’s Day I admit that I have to demonstrate a lot more effort than usual. Any gift that’s given from the heart is special to my husband, but DIY usually winds up costing a similar price than a practical item that I know he’ll use. I cringe when I see men getting pink heart stuffed pillows with “I love you” scrawled across the front, knowing that no matter how much he loves his lady I can still almost guarantee he hates those horrible gifts. I’m sure spring cleaning sends a lot of these items to the thrift shop where they will never see the light of day again!
This year I’ve rounded up a few classics that are too cool not to get your guy. A few of these items are gifts I have given to Tyler that he has used time and time again, including a gold version of the watch I gifted Tyler on our wedding day as a nod to Buffalo ’66 (a movie about my hometown) and “spanning time together.”
He gets compliments on his watch several times a week to this day (3+ years later)!

1. Bottle Cap Display // 2. Turntable // 3. Book (Similar here) // 4. Watch // 5. Duffel // 6. Tie // 7. Travel Kit
I’ll be putting together a women’s roundup over the next several days with items that I’d love to receive for Valentine’s Day. What gifts are you hoping for this year?

I like that this list skips the pink-heart-pillow territory and sticks with things someone will actually use, especially the turntable and travel kit. For a partner who records podcasts, class videos, or family clips, I would put a simple video-to-text transcription tool in that same practical-gift category; searchable notes and captions feel a lot more useful long-term than another novelty gift.
The turntable is my favorite item here, but is it really the more practical choice than the travel kit for someone who may not already own records? Its personality is higher, while the kit is useful immediately. I make a similar tradeoff with Pips Hint: I prefer a progressive hint before seeing a full NYT Pips solution, so I’ll check his record shelf first and choose from there.
This is so relatable! Finding the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for guys can be tough, and I totally agree about those cheesy, pink heart pillows – they’re just not it. I love how you tied the watch gift to a movie and “spanning time together”; that’s such a sweet, personal touch. It’s awesome that your Block Blast still gets compliments on it after all these years!
