Decorating My Sunroom (with Before & Afters!)

April 9, 2019

This post is sponsored by Tuesday Morning. All thoughts and opinions are all my own.

Can you believe it’s been a year since we moved to Buffalo?

After our family moved across the country, we were starting fresh with almost everything. It was too costly to fix up all of our rooms at once, so our sunroom took a backseat.

With the spring temperatures on the rise and a newborn in the house, I wanted to create a new space for our family to enjoy the nice weather in a comfortable, enclosed space.

Here’s the before:

As you could probably tell, this room quickly became our big toy dumping ground. Everything was stacked without any order and there was no space carved out for family time.

Once we removed all the clutter I could start to see the vision of what I would like to do with the room. We repurposed furniture we weren’t using from other parts of the house to keep the cost down.

These are the bones I was working with:

The local Tuesday Morning store had recently moved a few minutes down the street into a much large building and I couldn’t wait to check it out. The old location supplied many items in our house when we first moved including the rug in Fox’s room and a good portion of our kitchen items. Everything is so unique because of the limited availability of each item stocked, which means no cookie-cutter pieces.

Since Tuesday Morning is my mom’s favorite store, I scooped her up on my way to shop and we got to work. I decided to select a rug or couch throw pillows first to get the color scheme figured out and wound up with these.

These colors are out of my comfort zone but I wanted our sunroom to be bright and cheery — an extension of the yard rather than the house. I loved that the periwinkle blue mimicked the sky and the salmon reminded me of garden flowers. Of course I had to throw in my signature earthy tones in the form of the clay-colored throw pillow and area rug (only $59!) as well.

One of the things that was important to me about this space is that it be multifaceted. I wanted a sitting area where I could read with a cup of tea, nurse the baby, or take a cat nap. I also knew I wanted to leave the space in front of the couch wide open for Fox to play with his toys. Aside from that, I needed a table for my family to gather around for meals or even just a little afternoon watermelon snack.

The cozy lounging spot started out strong with the pillows and blanket, and I rounded everything out with a coastal-inspired reading lamp, beachy spherical decor, and a new mug because — let’s face it — I almost never leave the store without a new mug!

On the other table I placed a lantern with a gardenia candle and a marble/wood cutting board since we’re a family of snackers.

I kept Fox’s play kitchen in the room and added the cutest artificial tree, some hooks for jackets, and a doormat with the same cheery colors from the couch.

The last thing I had left to do was set the dining table.

I love finding new foods and drinks to try at Tuesday Morning and this watermelon soda was calling my name! I snagged a pitcher and glasses along with a table runner and enough placemats, linen napkins, chargers, and plates for four people to complete the whole spread. Just add flowers!

I added a bench for when family comes for dinner and we need extra seating. For now it doubles as a handy table for more decor like this industrial rustic lantern and lapis lazuli vase.

My favorite part of the whole experience was bringing everything home and immediately spending the next 10 minutes placing everything where I had pictured it going in my head. Everything came together so quickly with minimal effort and the price tag was incredible.

There was one time where my mom and I stood in the aisle with me using my calculator to add up the items in the cart over and over because I couldn’t believe the low cost and figure I must be doing something wrong. I wasn’t!

All in all, I picked up 43 items (including a large area rug and artificial tree) for under $400.

Our Family Room needs a serious makeover and I’ll be heading to Tuesday Morning again to do another one-stop redecorate.

Let me know below in the comments if you’d like to see how it turns out!
