Keeping Hardwood Clean for Kids

July 28, 2019

This post is sponsored by Bona but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

There’s been a lot of changes happening within our home in the recent months. Fox has been growing like a weed, with full-blown opinions and tastes that change seemingly every day. And our newest, Charlie, has been learning new tricks whenever he wakes up from a nap.

Now that he’s rolling around the floors and army crawling to attempt to reach the nearest binkie, Tyler and I have started to make a deliberate attempt to assess what in our home needs to be modified for the upcoming baby-proofing period.

It’s been about 2.5 years since Fox has required cabinet locks and outlet covers, so I’ve been slowly re-learning the quirky ways that an infant can (and will) get himself into dangerous situations around the home.

One thing that we really haven’t had to worry about is how to keep our hardwood floors clean and safe for Charlie’s ankle-height-antics. We’ve been lucky enough to have hardwood floors in nearly all of the homes we’ve lived in, and we fell in love with the quality of Bona’s line of mops and hardwood floor cleaner when our first landlord left a Bona care package when we moved in, with instructions on how to protect and clean the floors. It was a smart move as we kept those floors spotless, and even today, you’ll find me decisively handling the Bona Premium Spray Mop and Hardwood Floor Cleaner throughout our home.

Our house is a much older home, with original floors — so caring for them and making sure Charlie’s hands and feet stay away from dirt, dust and grime is critical to his health and my Virgo brain. After just one quick mop, the floors pop with shine, and freshen up the entire house — it’s been my go-to before hosting company or if I just need a little boost before the start of a long week. With its oversized mop head and additional microfiber cleaning pad, I can knock out the whole house quickly and easily.

I am so excited for Charlie to start really moving around, and I know his big brother has been patiently waiting to be more “active” with Charlie’s playtime.

One quick tip for moms that like to take photos of your family or kids indoors like I do — be sure to use the Premium Spray Mop once around the room you’re photographing just before starting. Your floor will have a beautiful natural glow and gloss, and will really help those photos pop.

If you have any tiny ones ready to get moving or if you’re looking to improve the look and feel of your hardwood floors, be sure to check out Bona and use the code “essentials2019” to receive free shipping on your order.

Keeping hardwood floors clean around children can be a daunting task. Frequent sweeping or vacuuming can help remove dirt, dust and other debris that may accumulate.
