A few weeks ago I shared all the ways in which I’m getting my home ready for baby number two due this March. Shortly after that, I took a peek into more behind the scenes items like bill paying and making sure our calendar is up to date and had a mini-freakout.
I dug through the coming months trying to figure out what would be on the horizon post-birth and breathed a sigh of relief realizing we’re pretty clear of birthdays and busy holiday seasons, until I hit Monday, April 15 — Tax Day.
Does anyone really love to do their taxes? Let alone one month after having a baby? Probably not.
This year we’ve chosen to work with H&R Block to get our taxes done quickly, efficiently, and most importantly– guaranteed accurate and with the largest possible return. We both have self-employment income which means itemizing deductions and other expenses, which is typically a monster of a task. But with H&R Block I have the peace of mind that I will find every possible deduction and the convenience of either filing online at home or in-person with an H&R Block tax professional close to my house.
I was even able to visit the website and utilize all the various planning tools to help calm my nerves. With all the changes in child tax credits this year, I was slightly confused on how my refund would be impacted. I found the tax reform calculator on the H&R Block website and after answering a few questions, I was given an estimated refund right away. Tools like this have really helped the prepping process for all the changes happening in the upcoming year.
I have a lot of things bouncing around in my head, from prepping the new nursery, organizing the new baby’s outfits and supplies, and organizing my upcoming work for my site. Knowing that our taxes are one thing that I don’t have to focus on lets me spend more time getting excited to welcome our newest addition to the family. I was able to pick out some new artwork for his room (coming soon!) and organize his swaddles, sleep sacks, burp cloths and pacifiers.
If you have a fully-packed life, and taxes are something you dread every year, be sure to give H&R Block a shot. The online service is straightforward and fast, and the ability to walk into an office and work with a tax professional provides an unmatched peace of mind.
