Revisiting a Childhood Favorite: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

May 6, 2019

This post is sponsored by Nickelodeon. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I first moved in with my husband, we had almost nothing to our names. He was a touring musician, constantly on the road and not in need of a home, and I had moved cross country with two cats and whatever else would fit in my car.

One of the first things we did was head to his family’s storage unit to get his stuff that had been packed away from over the years. He was giddy opening each box that was stuffed with video games, comic books, and more sentimental items he was happy to revisit with.

Undoubtedly, his favorite box contained his childhood action figures. We talked for hours afterwards about the dreams we had for our future, including how he hoped he’d get to share his collection with boys of his own.

Nine years later and we’re parents of two little boys!

Our first dressed as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for Halloween one year and my husband took that as his cue to break out his vintage Master Splinter, Leatherhead, and the famous four turtles to celebrate this new chapter. We had officially moved past building blocks and stackable rings and into Tyler’s full-fledged parenthood fantasy.

Fox was into it and over the years he’s accumulated a new collection of TMNT toys of his own.

Family caught on, and soon he had light-up sneakers and a ride-on electric car emblazoned with Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, and Leonardo.

We hit up our local Walmart recently for new clothes for spring and discovered the incredible collection of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gear. Fox keyed in on this adorable shirt — only $7.87! I’m always impressed with the prices of clothing on the racks at Walmart and this shirt is no exception.

There’s a huge variety of items available from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, including backpacks, shoes, jackets, socks, hats… the list goes on!

I think my husband’s a little jealous it doesn’t come in his size.

Luckily, we found some adult-sized TMNT shirts for him to wear the next time he’s acting as the starter of Fox’s very own racetrack.

Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?
