Summer Traditions, Old and New

July 5, 2018

This post is sponsored by I Love Ice Cream Cakes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Here in New York we’ve endured nearly a week of 90+ degree days, leaving no question in anyone’s mind of the current season. With these blisteringly hot days, it served as a reminder to switch into my “summer mode” — everything from clothes and footwear to color schemes and decor. That’s right, as we pass from season to season, I like to swap out accent colors throughout our house to compliment the mood of the weather.

It’s a great way to keep your design consistent, but constantly fresh and appropriate to the time of year. This year I’m embracing the warm colors, with shades of pink paired with yellow and pops of bright white and gold.

Summer is also the perfect season for nostalgia. Childhood summers are engrained into all of us, and there’s no better way to create the perfect atmosphere during summer parties that to touch on some of those experiences.

Growing up in Western New York, the summer months were filled with lawn games in the yard, drive-in movies, and ice cream cakes. In fact, some of my fondest memories revolved around my constant ballet class schedule, which happened to be next door to a Carvel® ice cream shop. Needless to say, the stops were frequent, and every birthday party included the celebrator’s favorite flavor of ice cream cake.

Luckily for me, this summer I’m able to still enjoy all of these with my family (yes even the local drive-in theater is still screening films nightly!) because Carvel Cakes are available at grocery stores across Buffalo

We have a slew of warm weather birthdays coming up so what better way to show off my new summer party table design and colors than with a couple of ice cream cakes? I was able to pick up both a Carvel Round Ice Cream Cake and an OREO® Ice Cream Cake from my local Dash’s Supermarket in the freezer aisle. In fact, I was astounded by the variety of sizes and styles that I Love Ice Cream Cakes had available at grocery stores all over town. The cakes provided some decorating fun for Fox and Tyler, and we all got a refreshing and delicious break from the heat.

With so many occasions coming up this summer, I even joined the I Love Ice Cream Cakes Crunchie Club to get coupons, product news, and other information.

What are some of your fondest summertime memories from growing up? While we’re at it, do you have a go-to color design scheme for summer occasions?

Let me know in the comments!
