The Trick to Curbing Colic

February 13, 2017

This post is sponsored by Gerber but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

A few days ago I was flipping through my Facebook feed and saw a girl I went to high school with writing about her 3-month-old. She was concerned because he’s constantly inconsolable and she can’t figure out why. Every symptom she listed made it more and more clear that her child is suffering from colic, yet she had no idea.

My own baby turned 2 last week and it sent me fumbling through a wide range of memories from the first months of his life. It’s hard not to remember the colic that plagued our family for nearly 7 months.

In case you’re not familiar, colic is defined as a healthy baby crying for 3+ hours per day for more than 3 weeks beginning in the first several weeks of life. We noticed Fox’s began every night around dinnertime, eventually progressing to a round-the-clock severity. It was really a shock to my system: first becoming a new mom, then working from home all alone with a colicky baby. Sometimes it made me feel pretty inadequate as a mom and didn’t help my confidence level.

I read all of the well meaning suggestions being given in the comment section and couldn’t get on board — none of those things mentioned worked for our family with Fox. The thing that did the trick for us? Gerber® Soothe products.

The excessive crying, colic, fussiness and gas subsided by a long-shot and I could finally breathe again. These products introduce probiotics into the baby’s system which adds a good bacteria into the digestive tract to combat bad bacteria. We specifically utilized the Gerber Soothe® probiotic colic drops and Gerber® Good Start® Soothe formula which are both clinically proven to reduce crying time.

My only regret is that I didn’t find this sooner.

Less crying means, more smiling for all!

I was observing most of the things I learned that I didn’t not as well as moms learn. Curbing Colic is a white noise that kids do and I didn’t know about it.
