If your holiday season was anything like mine, it was pretty wild.
We had out of town guests, hosted Christmas Eve dinner, and battled the crazy Buffalo snow while celebrating our butts off!
Holiday parties and downtime from school means that we fell into some poor eating habits, snacking on unhealthy options and rearranging mealtimes.
Now that we’re headed into a fresh new year, it’s time to get back into the routine of eating better. I’m feeling the pressure over here with baby number two arriving early March, so we’ll need to pop back into place real fast in order to keep up!
Here are three ways I’m getting my son on track for a strong new year.
Before School Nutrition
Fox eats his breakfast at school each day, but he always wakes up wanting something. I encourage an energy boost first thing with a cup of juice. We keep his cups in the lowest drawer in the kitchen and he’s taken to helping himself by going into the fridge and pouring just the right amount. You can tell how proud he is that he is performing “big kid” tasks and we love that he’s learning to be both helpful and independent.

On-the-Go Snack
For awhile, our outings got a little bit hairy while we tried to wrangle Fox into sitting through mundane activities like grocery shopping and going out to eat. I realized somewhat recently that giving him a snack on-the-go kept him happier and more entertained, decreasing crankiness all around. I now know to keep snacks in my purse, especially healthy ones that won’t cause a crash once the sugar wears off.

Healthy Lunchbox Solutions
About two years ago I had a heart-to-heart with one of my friends about some behavior I noticed in Fox that I wanted to squash right away. She’s a teacher and I trust her judgement when it comes to fostering the good qualities and tossing out the bad habits in well-meaning kids. She immediately suggested that I take a second look in his lunch box. As soon as we made a few alterations to his diet, we noticed his behavior drastically improve. I was floored that the food we eat could have such an impact on our actions! Since then, I’ve vowed to make better choices for his dietary needs and supply him with all the fruits, veggies, and proteins that he could ever need, including the liquid ones!

You’ll notice there’s a common denominator here in that we consistently integrate Mott’s products into our daily routine and have for several years since this is a brand that truly grows with children in specific stages of life. You can find these products at Target and Target.com, or you can do what I do and order for pickup! I’ve found that Target is one of the best destinations for healthy snacking and getting back into a healthy pattern.
